Week 26 – Windows and Doors
Week 26 was a flurry activity as the landscaping guys finished the 140′ retaining wall, the trim guys continued working on the massive tongue and groove ceiling work, and the framed windows and exterior doors got installed.
The BEAUTIFUL front door from Eco got installed. We bought a piece of scrap mahogany to test turquoise stains. More on that to come…
Two troughs were dug on the west elevation. One for additional french drain as we had a little flooding in the basement after a torrential two-day downpour, and the other for the grinder pump
All windows on the west elevation are installed! Looks great!

Another view of the master bedroom windows. They had to meet egress codes so they are larger than I would have initially figured
View of the north elevation. Tongue and groove almost complete. We are going to stain the beams a different color. Most likely a medium brown. We sent a ceiling sample to the architect to get his input. On the back dark brown should look great against the wall of glass and the “Bark” color posts. In the front, the brown beams could get lost in the dark brown siding, so we have to chose the solid stain carefully
Another view of the northern elevation. The tongue and groove extends to the eaves of the house. Love it!

Area where water feature will be installed
Anne enjoying some phone scrolling time….
Tongue and groove in the “grand hallway”. The gap is due to the ridge framing not being perfectly lined up. The trim guys strung from ridge to ridge and made adjustments with all the pieces on either side. We will need to install trim pieces to get rid of the gap
Another view of the big gap (really only about a 1/2″)
The only nail-on fin window gets installed in the guest bedroom. Under the “trellis to no-where”. Originally, the trellis was to cover a patio area, then when the house was flipped and the topography sloped, it was going to cover a deck. When we axed the deck to save money (and because we knew we would never use a street-facing deck) the trellis now serves no purpose, other than to look AWESOME!
West elevation full of windows
Big, aluminum clad windows
Master bath windows. Can’t really see they are obscured from this angle
Trough for grinder pump
One of the three big basement windows
Still plenty of tongue and groove left to install
Laundry room looking great! All slanted surfaces received the T&G treatment

Lot’s of ripping has been going on. Stacks and stacks of tongue and groove EVERYWHERE
I hate to see this kind of waste, but it’s the nature of the beast
Coming up:
– Tongue and groove install continues
– The “Space Tub” as our contractor calls it (Self-contained steam shower) has arrived and install should start if and when tile can get grouted
– Exterior siding “may” start
– Grinder pump get’s installed (water was turned on last week!)
