Week 17 – The Roof, The Roof, The Roof is on…..OUR HOUSE!
Week 17 saw a monumental milestone….our home is now UNDER ROOF! While the sheathing and underlayment had been installed weeks ago, our beautiful 26 gauge metal roof was put on this week along with the skylights, fascia and rake boards, and roof jacks. Several other trades were present this week as well. Plumbers got back to work connecting the water and drains. Electricians re-routed some of the outlets and sconce locations. The excavation subs also dug out about another foot of earth around the house and widened the outside area on the East elevation. The back deck work also started!

Bathtub drain. I hate that we have to build a soffit around it, but the staircase location made it unavoidable. Glad I went with a 9′-4″ ceiling!

Valley roofline with a closer view of the dining room skylights. For the Velux skylights we opted to make them inoperable to save on costs. I don’t see myself opening them for any reason other than to impress my friends. We DID go with laminated glass and I couldn’t be happier. The quality of light is incredible, and I pretty much will never have to clean them!
