Week 3 – Knoxville “MUDern”

Well, week 3 brought one of the biggest winter storms in the past 30 years so there was not a lot of action on the lot. Still, some dirt got moved around, and hauled off, making it easier to see how the house is going to sit and how the driveway is going to work. Slideshow below:

As you can tell it’s no longer Knoxville modern but Knoxville MUDern! Red clay everywhere. I’m glad we bought new pairs of mud boots! As much as I was hoping the “final” draft of the site plan was indeed the final draft, once some of the dirt was removed it became clear we needed to revisit it again. The architect came up with a “T” driveway that would allow us to keep both sets of Oak trees and give us ample turn-around room.

With the “final” survey CAD’d up it is great to see just how centered the house is on the lot. The original set was in the South Eastern corner of the land. After the architect decided to flip the plan to allow of side load garage access it was then located very far West to make room for a semi-level side yard. After two moves to get it out of the drainage easement it now sits in, what I would consider, the perfect spot. Albeit, the side yard is now tiny. Compromises, compromises.

As mentioned at the top Knoxville saw one of the most significant snow storms in recent years. Our area received anywhere from 7″-11″. Outlying areas saw more than a foot! While this meant no excavation it made for some captivating time lapse footage.

The construction camera would normally shut off at sundown because of it’s low light settings but the snow tripped it up and it shot some great night footage!
