WEEK 2

The week 2 excavation brought some more bad weather with several rainy days and more sub-freezing temps. Amazingly, quite a bit of work got done. Unfortunately, when part of the driveway was carved out to get the big equipment in it was clear making a driveway “loop” around the large Oak trees was probably not going to happen. See below:

Below you can get an idea of how large the retaining wall is going to be. We still have about another foot to dig! The architect’s latest site drawing calls for dual retaining walls, each about three feet hight.

While the patio is still at 85′ and needs to go to 84′ the crawlspace is pretty much set at 80′.

I bought my time-lapse construction camera, a Brinno TLC200, about a month before we started construction. I thought I had a pretty good handle on operation but, apparently, forgot to hit RECORD on week 1 of the excavation, missing a pretty good snow! This week I finally got it figured out, and it is really cool! It takes one frame of video every 10 minutes, goes to “sleep” at Sundown, and starts recording again when there is enough light. At the end of the build we should have a video showing the whole house being built in under 4 minutes. Below is a short clip from week 2.
